Al Ghazala Wau SC were crowned champions of the 2026 South Sudan Super Cup after edging El Merriekh Bentiu SC 1–0 in a tightly contested final played on Saturday, 15 August, at Buluk Playground in Juba.
The lone goal of the match came from Kout Chan in the 81st minute, breaking a deadlock that had held for the majority of the encounter. Chan’s decisive strike also earned him the Man of the Match award, sponsored by South Festival.
The final was played before a packed crowd and featured a vibrant atmosphere, with performances by several local cultural groups as well as renowned artists Browina and Dawa Lugga , who entertained fans throughout the event.
The match lived up to its billing as a fiercely fought contest from the opening whistle, with added significance given both sides’ involvement in continental competition this season — Al Ghazala Wau are set to feature in the CAF Champions League, while El Merriekh Bentiu will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
With this victory, Al Ghazala Wau SC join the roll of teams that have won the Super Cup, which was first launched in Juba in 2014. Al Salam Bor were crowned champions of the third edition in 2023, while Jamus SC Juba won the fourth edition in 2024. El Merriekh SC Bentiu took the fifth edition in 2025, and Al Ghazala SC Wau are champions of the sixth edition in 2026.
Following the final whistle, South Sudan Football Federation President Mr. Francis Amin Michael presented the tournament medals to the Al Ghazala Wau squad, in the presence of club president Mr. Edmond Ramadan.
Al Ghazala Wau’s captain then lifted the Super Cup trophy aloft, adding a new title to the club’s honours board as South Sudan’s new football season officially gets underway.
